The official Facebook account of "The Legend of Hell's Gate", recently send a message in its timeline inviting fans to look for the "The Year in Review" special edition of True West Magazine, published in March 2012.

Inside the True West Collector, there's a brief article about "The Legend of Hell's Gate" in the Movies TV & Docs - independent Westerns section, including a picture of Summer Glau as Maggie Moon.

"...Firefly fans will be excited to see Summer Glau again, while E.T.'s Henry Thomas shines as Booth and John Wayne's grandson Brenda joins the ensemble cast..."

Here's the HQ Scans of the article and cover of the "The Year in Review" special edition of True West Magazine.

A little OT : True West magazine has a nice six-page article on Clint Eastwood titled "Clint, The Icon of a Generation" and several full page photos of other icons like John Wayne or Steve Mc Queen.
This is pure gold for a guy like me who has been raised with the classic westerns smile

I agree with you guys, I mean if your going to hire an actress like Summer then you should at least use her to your advantage instead of just using her as a way to promote the movie to a larger audience.

If Summer would had not in this movie the Movie Title would easily change to "The Legend of bored Viewers" biggrin

I agree With Blazius They just used her as Fan magnet and Insult her Talent by just using a few scenes only angry

Yeah, I'm laughing and crying at the same time.

For one its so refreshing to see that Summer is popular enough to be worth using her image so prominently. On the other hand they are insulting her talent with only using her as a fan magnet angry

It again defies logic IMO. If Summer brings viewers unlike every other cast member then why not using her in the movie in the first place? If others can't bring viewers then they are presumably inferior and people will be more satisfied to see Summer than the others, right? Satisfied viewers->successful movie-> profit. Or was Summer too expensive for them to be hired in a main role?

You'll notice there's been a (deliberate) semantic shift : in True West's previous article, it says "Beard cast some top talent in major and minor roles, like ET’s Henry Thomas as Booth, Jim Beaver, Buck Taylor, Firefly’s Summer Glau and John Wayne’s grandson Brendan", while Summer is depicted as a major cast this time.

100 % agree Alex!

On one side, we should be pleased that Summer is the public image of the movie (same as in the movie poster btw) but on the other side it does not represent the reality of the movie.

Thanks for posting the exclusive scans!

Also i find it funny that "True West" has chosen to illustrate the article with a picture of Summer Glau, considering she has a minor role in the movie.

Funny and annoying as the information was contributed by Tanner Beard who directed and starred in the film. He is completely using her appearance to promote his film. Is that dishonest or what?

I love it that Summer got a role in the movie (and hopefully got paid) but it kind of ticks me off that they use her to promote the film when she has a minor role. Thanks as always for posting this information.
