The final result of the Summer Glau Wiki 2012 calendar

We proudly present the final result of the Summer Glau Wiki 2012 Calendar.

This project was started 18 march by michelangelo. He thought that it could be done in two months with the help of the devoted members of this wiki, but I don’t think anyone of us anticipated that the end result would look this good:

Many skills have been acquired and enhanced during the project.

The designs for this calendar was created by Fermi, michelangelo, Futurezone, Mr.Mogwai and Charley_dixon.

We also want to thank Granite and Devo that participated in this project with many helpful comments and suggestions.

The calendar will be printed and one copy will also be sent to Summer.

The Summer Glau Wiki received many requests from fans who wanted to know how to get their own examplary of the Calendar.

Here is the process to print the calendar using a printing-house:

1) Add all pictures in this album: 2012 Calendar to your favorites and download your favorites as a zip-file.
A pdf file is often requested by printing shops.

2) technical features :
Digital printing : laser color, 13 pages A4 format printed on matted coated paper 250 g from PDF file
Finishing : metal binding + notch and calendar hook

If you connect to the website of a printing-house, you may not find the exact requested features; in this case see if the website offers the possibility to make a personalized order. They will return a mail with a personalized quote that you can accept and thus initiate the manufacture of the calendar.

We would recommend professional prints if possible,. The manufacture of the calendar can be made by any printing-house around the corner (try near universities), all you have to do is provide the pdf file in a USB key.

You can also do the prints at home and have the binding done on a printing-house for very cheap. Try to match as much as possible the technical specifications we gave above; using regular paper for example would not give satisfying result.

If someone has additional question feel free to ask.

Here is the tribute video for the calendar.

thank you smile
i have noticed on April that the quote is wrong.

on there it is written as "The survivors of the nuclear fire war called the Judgment Day. They lived only to face a new nightmare: the war against the machines."

it should read "The survivors of the nuclear fire called the war Judgment Day. They lived only to face a new nightmare: the war against the machines."

i know i am nit picking but i noticed it right away. i have seen T2 close to 50 times by now lol.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -----------

i just read the fan letter to Summer that accompanied the 2012 Calendar. there is very nice wording and emotion behind it. i am sure that Summer will appreciate it smile

i want to contribute to the 2013 calendar. i am just not sure how yet.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -----------

on the instructions it says:

technical features :
Digital printing : laser color, 13 pages A4 format printed on matted coated paper 250 g from PDF file
Finishing : metal binding + notch and calendar hook

A4 is quite small. much smaller than a calendar. if i ask them to make it calendar size will stretch the pictures? i hope not because that would ruin the design.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -----------

i went to a photo printing shop. well a printer cartridge store. they do calendars also. the girl there said that i have to make each page a JPG and then re-size it to 8x12 inches. which is much smaller that they are.
she showed me other calendars they have. they are A4 size by the look of it.
so my question is is 8x12 inches still going to be good enough quality?

I made a pdf file and uploaded it on Sendspace so that anyone can download it; the rest of the process is exactly as you described it and should cost about $25.

Great, it is a big deal for, as told michelangelo, - " ... to promote Summer's name and The Summer Glau Wiki"

Fermi, you forgot to credit Mr.Mogwai who made that Lamborghini Reventon graphics used for March.

Thanks to everyone who made it happen! Yes, many of us had little knowledge and experience in photoshop when we started working on it. Maybe some things do not look very professional after all but I'm very impressed of the result. I did not expect it to be as good as it is. Anyways it is more important that we put our time, our dedication, our skills into it.

As for me working on this project made me start studying the Adobe Certified Associate course. So maybe I even get a certificate if I will not be too lazy smile

I hope other artists will join us next year so that we can have a greater diversity on the graphics; deviantart artists already contacted us. Comments, ideas, critics and encouragements messages are always appreciated, no need to be an artist to participate to this project.

Everyone must keep in mind that this is the first time the wiki creates a calendar, yet the result is way better than the nice but amateur work you could expect from simple fans.
I don't think we made real mistakes, only minors adjustments had to be done. Next year calendar will have a more professional approach now that we improved our skills and saw the differents steps of the creation.
We're eager to progress.

Great presentation Fermi that reflects my thoughts exactly!

We started from scratch and i had no idea what the result would be, considering most of us (except Fermi) were new to photo manipulation.
As Fermi said, the result is something we should be proud of; i'm glad we managed to keep a fairly professional look and feel to the Calendar given that some graphics were not initially made for the calendar.

And many thanks to the participants of course!
