The cast of Firefly reunites once again, except they're not joining up for another TV series. This time, Summer Glau and the entire original cast of Firefly will reprise their characters and lend their voice talent to "Firefly Online", an online strategic roleplaying game set in the universe of Joss Whedon's Firefly.
The shiny news was announced in the game developer's panel at San Diego Comic-Con on July 24, 2014 (Yes, the day of Summer's 33th Birthday) and reported at io9.com.
From Firefly Online Game:
Firefly Online (FFO) is an online strategic roleplaying game set in the universe of Joss Whedon's cult classic TV show - Firefly.
Players take on the role of a ship captain as they hire a crew and lead missions, while trading with and competing against millions of other players like themselves. Much like the crew of Serenity, the Firefly-class transport ship featured in the original show, players must do whatever it takes to survive in the Verse: find a crew, find a job and keep flying.
Currently in development for PC, Mac, iOS and Android. For more info or to register go to www.keepflying.com.
We also have now a very shiny first teaser trailer. No sign of Summer's voice in the video but hopefully she will be featured in future trailers. And yes, it's Ron Glass's voice at the begining. Also, there's a surprise. A Big Damn One. You'll see..
Firefly Online Gameplay Trailer #1: If I Were a Captain
'Firefly Online' was developed by Sparkplug games, in partnership with Quantum Mechanix and Fox Digital Entertainment. It will be released on PC, Mac, iOS, and Android.
UPDATE: Sorry, folks. The website got so much traffic we crashed the server, then the ISP. The ISP was, needless to say, not too happy. So we're moving everything over to an Amazon server. Should all be shiny soon.
This the licensed game which you can now register for at Firefly Online website. (Site is down for now)
As always, We will keep you informed on the development and release of this exciting project through our news section and dedicated forum thread.
Who is excited by the possibility of hearing more dialogue and plot-development from THE cast?

I am really excited about this, but I have old pc so not sure if I'll be able to play any time soon unless sys req's are doable for me.
That being said on the other hand the graphs looks a bit "dated" so it will be a huge disappointment if it still requires a lot of power to run. Don't get me wrong they are not bad looking, and on many occasions the skin work and textures have much greater impact than the cgi itself, but that's a wide topic....
I'd say the game looks interesting, and I love that you probably won't play with the original crew itself, but you'll "have" to ;P make one of your own, so ppl end up with interesting and unique crews. I am sure one will have a lot of meeting with the originals tho.
Another thing I am wondering is, will this be free to play or fee based. And will it exploit the play to win or micro feeds systems, which is pretty much pay to play/win again anyways....
Back to the game play, hence the site's down and I haven't had any awareness of this in the past, does any one knows whether you'll have to hire real players or you can have the option to use npc's or you'll only be able to use npc's and no life npc's/players as they call them. :P
It's great that you can customize your ship and rooms, but the lather kinda looked a bit cheese or unfinished/unpolished. And also the game looks like it's gonna be point to click, which sadly reminds me of the bitter memories of the fail attempt of Farscape rpg. Doubt it will be that bad, but if certain stuff lacks next thing to worry is the plot and the proper use of the characters' actors. I mean if they use them in silly situation and put them in stupid dialogues and stuff like that, which fails to make a proper plot/story. Not being negative here, we'll have to wait and see.
It be a fun game to play tho.
