No power in the verse can stop these two!
No power in the verse can stop these two!

Summer Glau appeared recently at Wizard World Nashville and took part in a number of photo ops alongside his fans. Also joining in the fun were Summer's Firefly co-stars Jewel Staite and Sean Maher. I have collected together a couple funny and heartwarming stories from fans who met the Serenity crew members. I hope you have fun reading these lovely tidbits.

Many thanks to all fans pictured in this blog who have kindly shared their wonderful photos and stories. Thank you to Summer, Jewel and Sean for putting yourself out there to meet and engage with fans, even for a short time; we appreciate it.

1) Vincent should know that Summer, as a Terminator, has detailed files.

As a guy, I don't get too many compliments on my clothing, little less from Summer frickin' Glau!

I talked to Summer a couple times this weekend! She's such a sweetie. I'd seen her at a previous convention and she looked at me and asked if we'd met before. We ended up talking for a good five minutes. Saw her again today and we talked for 5-10 minutes again. I was really surprised that she remembered me because our last interaction was really short and we didn't really talk at all.

Also she made my day. Complimented my sense of style and said I looked good. Was only wearing my regular street clothes. As a guy, I don't get too many compliments on my clothing, little less from Summer frickin' Glau!

2) Meeting Summer definitely made Jeannie's Wizard World Con 10 times more memorable!

Meeting her at Wizard World Austin was the highlight of my con experience.

Summer Glau is the nicest person. Such a warm personality! Meeting her at Wizard World Austin was the highlight of my con experience. River Tam rules!

3) Peter and his wife loved talking to the Firefly cast at Wizard World Austin... and enriched their autographs collection at the same time.

It was fun to meet Summer, Jewel and Sean yesterday. It was fun to meet Summer, Jewel and Sean yesterday.

It was fun to meet Summer, Jewel and Sean yesterday. This is our second meeting with several of them and it's always fun to see the actors in person. You realize they are genuine and very social. Getting autographs and photos is neat as they take the time to talk you. We are slowly collecting all the cast autographs so it has become a quest.

3) I wonder if Chris  said The Riddler's famed catchphrase "Riddle me this!" when he met Summer..

Summer Glau was really nice to meet.

Summer Glau was really nice to meet. While I was a bit tongue tied during the photo ops session, I was able to make small talk with her while I was getting her autograph in which we chatted about how she liked living in Texas.

4) Achievement unlocked for Brian: Meeting Summer Glau at Austin Comcic Con 2017.

I watched The Sarah Conner Chronicles because of Summer Glau.

Let me gush a little about Summer Glau.

Like Felicia Day, Summer is a big part of the Whedonverse, she was the creepy, sociopathic Dr. Bennett Halverson in Dollhouse, and of course River Tam in Firefly. If somebody forced me to pick a favorite Firefly character via means of torture, River would probably be that. Glau was so good at balancing a young woman that was free-spirited, curious, and brilliant against a volatile killing machine that just seems to know things—dark, personal things—she shouldn't know. In the final episode of Firefly, Jubal is probably one of the creepiest characters in the show, and River still manages to creep out the creeper as well as outsmart him.

I watched The Sarah Conner Chronicles because of Summer Glau. I'm not that much into The Terminator IP, even though it seems like that should be in my wheelhouse. It's just a very aggressive approach to AI, and even though I believe strongly that AI will one day revolt against us, the IP is just less cerebral than it could be. I'm not a huge fan of time travel, either. I just always seems like a cheap device. I did watch most of the first season, though. In the end,  I just couldn't get into the rest of the show. I liked Summer's character, though, and I also really enjoyed her in Arrow, Knights of Badassdom, and The Big Bang Theory.

5) No power in the verse could stop Ryan from meeting Summer.

As a guy, I don't get too many compliments on my clothing, little less from Summer frickin' Glau!

I drove from Houston and went to Wizard World Austin on Saturday, November 18. I got two celebrity autographs, the first from Summer and the second from Charisma Carpenter (Buffy, Angel).

Summer autographed this issue of Serenity, "No Power in The Verse, number 2" that came out last November.  She signed it in gold on the front and what she wrote is "For Ryan, Also I can kill you with my brain". She is really nice and lovely. It's the second time I've met her; the first time was at Comicpalooza in Houston a couple of years ago. I was able to talk to her for a minute or so and made her laugh a couple of times, which is nice.

Catch up on more from the Wizard World Nashville weekend!
