Meeting Summer at Motor City Comic Con
Meeting Summer at Motor City Comic Con

Sometimes meeting your favorite artists is as great as you hoped. Here is what it's like to meet Summer, according to the wide variety of Motor City Comic Con stories I have collected for you. She will not only pose for pictures with fans, but she will engage them in actual conversation and genuinely cares about her fans. I hope you have fun reading these lovely tidbits.

1) Let's start with an "aww" moment. Stephen and his wife Sara worked at Summer's signing table and helped keep chaos at bay. They sent us these lovely photos with Summer, her husband Val and their youngest daughter Sunny Isabou!

Both Summer and husband Val, very genuinely kind people.Sarah with Summer's husband Val and Sunny Isabou

Sara and I controlled the crowd around Summer's line/signing-table for the weekend at Motor City Comic Con in Novi, MI for Premiere Event Services. Making sure lines and people were not congesting the walkways of the isles and that VIPs and General Admissions went in their own respective lines. This was my 2nd year working the event and Sara's first. Both out first for having a photo opportunity of any kind.

Sara struck up conversation with Val about their baby as he was making a round, checking in on Summer. (unrecognized by the crowd) Sara didn't know who either were until using Google. I knew Summer from a brief viewing of Serenity and Firefly and the knowledge of Sarah Connor Chronicals. (Not one for movies turned TV spinoffs but meh)

Sara and I have 4 children ourselves. Ages 8, 3, 2, and 1 this year. Summer always wished she had 4 but fears she may be getting too old now to keep up with anymore. (Her words, not mine)

She kept saying how Sara and I were like a perfect looking match and thought it was cute that we were both tasked with working her booth. (Sara was stationed at the front guiding the VIP line to the table, while I controlled the General Admissions line and kept the foot traffic in the isle clear so people could easily get to each booth, vender, or exhibit.

Both Summer and husband Val, very genuinely kind people. Not easy to come by these days. Summer is very soft spoken and sweet.
Made for a great experience. Last year, I worked Ron Perlman and a few others' booths the whole weekend and didn't get a chance to meet any of them at the end of the last day like I did with Summer.

2) Sarah (on the left), Linda (with the Superman hat) and their mom had a great time meeting Summer at Motor City Comic Con 2018.

Summer is sooooo sweet. Her line was so long but so very worth it to meet this wonderful human being.

Here is my "report" of meeting Summer last weekend. I just sort of paraphrased what I wrote on the pictures.

My name is Linda and I had the pleasure of meeting Summer Glau at the Motor City Comic Con on May 19, 2018 with my sister Sarah. Summer is sooooo sweet. Her line was so long but so very worth it to meet this wonderful human being. I love her slight Texas accent. While she was autographing our picture (of her as River Tam), her husband came by with one of their children. So cute.

The next day I went back with my mom (on May 20, 2018) and saw Summer Glau again. When my mom and I went up to the table, Summer recognized me from the previous day and said it was nice to see me again. She even asked how my sister was doing and asked what she was up to that day. Summer is just a fantastic human being and a brilliant actress.

3) David had a blast meeting his favorite Firefly character.

River Tam was my favorite character of the series, so meeting her was just absolute bliss

I went to Motor City Comic Con tonight and met the absolute adorable and lovely Summer Glau! This was SO amazing for me, because I’ve loved her ever since Firefly, River Tam was my favorite character of the series, so meeting her was just absolute bliss.

4) I thought Sarah would tell me more about her merry band of cosplayers - I have a weakness for bearded Kaylees -. Instead, she shared a heartwarming storie involving a familiar name and a playful Summer :-)

Meeting Summer was a terrific experience. I've been a fan for quite a long time, and was very glad to have this opportunity

I'm writing to share a story about meeting Summer at MCCC this past weekend.

This story is more of one I observed though.

My friends and I were in line for a group photo with her. Getting their picture taken was a couple and an infant. Summer was holding the baby and cooing at her. The mother then said that the baby's name was River. The entire line collectively melted, as did Summer. She even acted like she was going to kidnap baby River. It was a very heartwarming sight.

Meeting Summer was a terrific experience. I've been a fan for quite a long time, and was very glad to have this opportunity.  She was friendly and warm, and really one of the better celebrity meetings I've had.

Honestly. The whole reason we went is because I saw a Facebook saying Summer would be there. It was my birthday weekend and a great reason for us all to get together. Our Kaylee (Robert) and Wash (Mark) came in from St. Louis, Simon (Missy) and Jayne (Sarah) are from Kalamazoo, and Mal (Amy) from Benton Harbor. Most of us had never cosplayed before, but decided it would be fun. We love Firefly dearly, and had a great time doing it. We're already planning our cosplays for the next time.

5) I just had to share with you the accounts that two gentlemen sent us, both of which involve dance. The first one is from friends of the arts Roger, and the second one by facetious pastor Kevin.

I met Summer today at Motor City Comic Con.  I recommended that she goes see Misty Copeland  [Editor's Note: American ballet dancer for American Ballet Theatre] in person.  She was here in Detroit in March performing Romeo & Juliet.  She is incredible.

Thanks for coming to our Comic Con.  Wishing you much success and happiness!

Roger

It was a pleasure meeting you today. Keep dancing with your daughters... It'll be a memory they'll never forget. Remember... Swing Dance is fun!!!
God Bless!!!

Kevin

6) Robert has been talking to me about his upcoming meeting with Summer Glau and Stephen Amell for months..and he wasn't disappointed when the big moment arrived.

I have a couple friends who were jealous that I got to meet her and they didn'tI'm having the best day of my life meeting the man himself the legend Stephen Amell the Green Arrow

How I Met Steven and Summer  at Motor City Comic Con 2018.

Well my story is that it was amazing. It was wonderful. Meeting the man himself the legend Stephen Amell the Green Arrow was like a dream, just like how I met James Marsters from Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Allison Mack from Smallville, those were incredible.

And regarding Summer, it was amazing as well. Summer, she was smiling so beautifully I wish that day never ended. I have a couple friends who were jealous that I got to meet her and they didn't.

There's like so many questions I forgot to ask her but I hope I have a second chance to ask her questions next time if I ever see her again I hope she had a good time this weekend cuz I know I did.

And since Robert is a dedicated ARROW fans with many strings on his bow (pun intended!), he also has a YouTube channel where he publish reviews and more.

7) Dean's photo generated a lot of attention, this is why I asked him to tell us a bit more about it.

The funny thing is I asked her to make face for the pic

The funny thing is I asked her to make face for the pic. She laughed and stood for a second to think of a face, really great personality. Definitely loves her fans.

8) Motor City Comic Con veteran Lee tells us about his Comic Con journey and meeting Lucy Lawless and Summer Glau last weekend.  And he promised to wear the correct t-shirt next time he'll meet Summer :-)

Meeting Summer Glau was another highlight as well.I've been waiting 20 years for this moment and yes, this shirt I bought 20 years ago during my junior year in high school.

I went to Motor City Comic Con tonight and met the absolute adorable and lovely Summer Glau! This was SO amazing for me, because I’ve loved her ever since Firefly, River Tam was my favorite character of the series, so meeting her was just absolute bliss.

9) Tyler acted as an "special envoy" to Motor City Comic Con and shared with us many photos in real time (thanks for your help!).

It was so cool meeting you Summer Glau at the Motor city Comic Con

It is so fun meeting a whole bunch of celebs at Motor City Comic Con. This is my eight year coming here.
You get to see lot of people dressing up for the comic con. If anyone is shy at all but you love comic books, then comic con is the best place to be at. You can come out of your shell and talk to people here that is all about comic books. My sister always comes out of her shell when she is here, getting the chance to talk to other people.  She and I had a great time at Summer’s panel on Sunday.
I know that the motor city comic con has an arts and crafts place for kids. I am not to sure about the other comic cons that are out there

10) Krista from Summer Glau Fanpage on Facebook was kind enough to send us KJ's photo with Summer, as well as the accompanying comment (Beforehand, KJ gave her permission to share these tidbits with us).

She is real and really really nice!

From KJ:
Summer Glau! When I first saw that she was going to be at the Motor City Comic Con I told myself, now I have to go. I've seen Summer's work from Knights of Badassdom, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, all the way to Firefly.  On screen she always seemed to have this underlining feel of grace. Even when she is killing quite a number or Reavers it’s still there.

When I got to the Con, I first started to make my way through everything and make sure I didn’t miss some cool art work, which there was a whole lot of. I found myself by the autophraph area and I immediatly wanted to find her. Once I saw the panels I wanted to see her before it was time to make the plunge to get a once in a life time signature and photo with her. As I was getting closer and closer my adrenaline started to kick in. I was telling myself, she is just a normal person and will be nice. I got the photo I wanted her to sign. She was about to take a drink. I was about to go for it but I told her I rather she take a drink then we can chat. I used this moment to gather my nerve. Summer Glau is SO Nice! When we started to chat it was like she hadn't  seen people all day long and her voice and attitude were so kind. After she signed the photo we took a picture. I was literally was trying my to keep a chill face on. I was about to burst at the seams. One of the first things I thought was, she is real and really really nice.

KJ Johnson is a photographer based in the Metro Detroit area, a cosplayer, and a huge Summer Glau fan! Feel free to check out her work at:
