What’s Summer Glau’s best role?

It's not Firefly week anymore on Cliqueclack, it's Summer Glau's week biggrin

Once again the site has decided to dedicate it's newest Firefly's artcile to our beloved Summer Glau; as i explained already on the "Firefly: Who’s your favorite character?" thread, the fact that River won the poll is a signal for them that dedicating articles/polls to Summer is a way to gain traffic. Every site wants to gain traffic, this Wiki included.

Quote
The CliqueClack team has come together once again during 'Firefly' week to discuss nominations for Summer Glau's best role. Vote in the poll and elaborate in the comments.

Quote
Keith: My vote is for TSCC, because she’s pretty much a robot in person if what I witnessed at SDCC is any indication. Then again, River Tam isn’t a far cry from it either. (Disclaimer: In her defense, I later found out she was at SDCC during her birthday, so there may have been some bitterness going on.)

Katie: River Tam, and not just because it is Firefly week. She has such a chilling presence at such a young age, but then her performance in Serenity? Wow.

Ivey: There was a lot to like about her turn on The Unit, because it was so different from anything she’s done before, and she didn’t look like a fish COMPLETELY out of water, even though the character pretty much sucked (in a “she was a terrible person” way, not in a “the writing sucks” way). Though, my vote really has to go to Bennett on Dollhouse. Granted, playing “odd” is up her ally, this was by far my favorite twist.

Quote
Bob: She really did a great job on Terminator. I don’t think it’s easy to get the nuances of playing an emotionless robot correctly (for an example of it working poorly, just watch the Governator in Terminator 2). She was able to make Cameron a very interesting character to watch, when the character could have easily fallen into a blank slate with a gun. She knew the right times to come off slightly human, and the right times to ratchet up the robot. Plus, the performance really stood up against Lena Heady’s tour de force, which is saying something.

Chuck: I have to agree. I thought she was able to bring some human emotion to her robotic character as well. There were times when she seemed to really care for John Connor.

What's Summer Glau's best role to date?

River Tam, Firefly
Orwell, The Cape
Bennett Halverson, Dollhouse
Cameron Phillips / Allison Young, Sarah Connor Chronicles
Tess Doerner, The 4400
Crystal Burns, The Unit
Other -- elaborate in the comments.

As usual, leaving a comment to enlight your choice in this thread as well as on Cliqueclack comment section would be appreciated.

Its a close call between Cameron and River, but I will vote for Cameron.

Is it just me who think that the entire plot of the firefly series revolves around River??? Just an observation. biggrin

Thats a window bird.

I knew you would have voted Cameron!

Unfortunately, i'm not a Firefly specialist, but i thnik that the serie did not last enough to develop that; other members of the crew had an episode centered on them. Joss Whedon was forced to reveal on Serenity what he had in mind for River Tam or maybe he changed completely his plans about River but i doubt this. I'm sure many others members of the Wiki could answer you better than i.

Can not say that River in Firefly was the central character - her time on the screen relative to the total time series was several times smaller compared to the time in Cameron in TSCC. Actually, this is the main reason that I am not a fan of Firefly as a whole - not the central role of the River.

However, if you look closely at Serenity, you can see the crucial_importance River in the story (by the way, the image of Serenity-River, well as its operation as engines of destruction to the detriment of all other aspects, I absolutely do not like)

Yes, River is what brings the crew together. Firefly goes completely against the Randian ideals recently embraced by western leaders. No man is an island, people need people. The thing I like so much about Firefly is the story could take place in any time period in a million different settings, and the heart of the story would be the same. It sets it apart somehow from other scifi in space as the focus isn't on cool technology or space aliens. BSG came along and did a really good job portraying humanity's struggles with a scifi backdrop, and it had a cool "RED ALERT: BATTLE STATIONS!" naval warfare feel to it. But Firefly was something special. Something about all the right things coming together with the cast and the energy the show had.

For those who wants to know a little bit more about Firefly/Serenity, don't forget it' Firefly (should i say Glau?) week at Cliqueclack; they have short debate between the members of the staff :

Firefly or Serenity: Which is better?

Firefly the series versus Serenity the movie

Serenity: Does the big Firefly sequel work on its own?

Another capital article if you want to understand the tv show :
Who’s the sexiest person on Serenity?

Glau's week continues at Cliqueclack.com ; a new article has been published :

River & River – the sci-fi crossover series the world needs to see

"Close to a month ago, I decided to listen to my many anglophilic friend and take on the new generation of Doctor Who, starting with the Christopher Eccleston series. Without seeing any of the 20th century episodes, I fell in love with the show almost instantly, devouring most of the show within about a week and a half.

Right after I finished the David Tennant era, I went on a surprise trip out of the country for almost two weeks. As I rode to the airport, I started thinking about River Song, who I had just been introduced to in the 3rd series. My mind started to roam to the one other character named River in scifi-dom… River Tam of Firefly. I don’t know how it happened, but the next moment an awesome idea crashed into my brain — River Tam and River Song as police detectives in a futuristic/steampunk version of a ’70s police procedural. When Firefly week was officially scheduled a few days later, I knew I had to bring my vision to the world. Once I got home, I frantically caught up with the last season and a half and started brainstorming."

No need to do that, the Cameron option already includes Alison : "Cameron Phillips / Allison Young, Sarah Connor Chronicles"

The results so far (at least we're sure Summer Glau will win this one, one way or another biggrin ) :

What's Summer Glau's best role to date?

Cameron Phillips / Allison Young, Sarah Connor Chronicles (56%)
River Tam, Firefly (31%)
Bennett Halverson, Dollhouse (5%)
Orwell, The Cape (4%)
Crystal Burns, The Unit (2%)
Tess Doerner, The 4400 (1%)
Other -- elaborate in the comments. (1%)

I can't chose between Cameron, River and Bennett.I love all three for different reasons so I can't tell which one I find superior to others. It totally depends on my mood which one I prefer to watch. Maybe I will flip a coin or two to decide wacko

Summer Glau is so awesome, it isn't even funny!

Thanks to everyone for voting and commenting at Cliqueclack !
The two polls won by River Tam and Cameron/Allison + the articles dedicated to River Tam are like popularity indicators for them.
And it's clear that Summer Glau ruled the Firefly Week.

More visibilty for Summer on the net like this means more publicity for her and her work. Mission accomplished!

Cameron. It was a hard choice between River and Cameron...but Cameron is...well...Cameron.
River is someone i will protect with all my vast power, but Cameron is someone who could definetly battle to my side without hesitation. I never found a girl so strong in my life. If i actually found some girl like that, i will be no more a bachelor.
But a gilr so badass simply doesnt exist u.u so i will be on my way alone for a long time XD
