I don't think she's bad in interviews. I think it has more to do with the writers not using Orwell properly. What can she honestly say? The writers aren't using her, so she's forced to repeat the same tired lines. Sadly, that won't change until the writers expand her role.
Not to mention, I'm pretty sure NBC is giving all the actors talking points.

When I was watching this interview again last night because of the whole editing thing, I actually thought Summer was quite good. I think my favourite part was when she said, "I was wearing a mask." That was hilarious and adorable! "It didn't seem like much of a threat. We're not built to be cruel."
