The Producers Guild of America is the non-profit trade group that represents, protects and promotes the interests of all members of the producing team in film, television and new media. The PGA has over 5,000 members who work together to protect and improve their careers, the industry and community by facilitating members health benefits, encouraging enforcement of workplace labor laws, the creation of fair and impartial standards for the awarding of producing credits, as well as other education and advocacy efforts. The PGA hosts important industry events including the annual PGA Awards and the Produced By Conference.
Besides producing 'The Fisher King', American screenwriter and film producer Debra Hill also produced John Carpenter's slasher horror film Halloween.
One of the judges of the Producers Guild Weekend Shorts Contest is American film producer and screenwriter Gale Anne Hurd; you KNOW her from The Terminator (1984), Aliens (1986) and The Abyss (1989) and AMC's drama series The Walking Dead, to name a few.
We can only speculate on how Summer got involved in the project, all the more that the project was set in a very short time, 48 hours. The filmmakers were lucky that Summer was available for the week-end. My guess is that someone in the crew knew Summer and invited her to participate to the short.

Here's a picture with the director and other actors of 'Change to Spare' (the short was in the top ten) at the PGA shorts contest screening.
Watch Summer Glau in a six-minute short drama called "Dead End", also starring Ivan Sergei and her "Scent of the Missing" co-star Eric Winter, directed by Jay Torres and produced by German Michael Torres.
You may recall that the short was made for the 2012 Producers Guild of America Weekend Shorts Contest honoring the late Debra Hill; the challenge was to make a film – write, shoot and edit it – in two days.
Summer delivers a great performance in this intense and moving short drama.
