Netflix Orders Psychological Thriller Gypsy To Series For 2017

Everything's coming up roses for Netflix: The streaming service has given a 10-episode series order to the psychological thriller Gypsy. (But the comparisons to Broadway's classic musical end with the title.)

The hour-long drama centers on Jean Holloway, a therapist who develops dangerous and intimate relationships with the people in her patients' lives.

Set to premiere in 2017, the projects counts Liza Chasin, Lisa Rubin, Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner among its executive producers, with newcomer Rubin also penning the script.

"Firefly's" Jewel Staite Joins "Legends Of Tomorrow" As Tech Genius With DC Ties

Thanks to a premise that allows them to travel all across the timestream, "Legends of Tomorrow" can include characters from both the past and the future. The show has added one guest actor that will play a character from the "Arrow"-verse's future.

Jewel Staite will play Rachel Turner, described as a "tech genius/roboticist who exists in a future in which technology has an even firmer grip on our lives than it does today. "The announcement also mentions that Turner, scheduled to appear in the show's tenth episode, is the latest in a long line of inventors and the descendent of a DC Comics character. The character description states that Rachel Turner "believes that her creations can make that world a better place, "but that her inventions are "destined" to be taken by "Legends" villain Vandal Savage, who will use them as tools for world conquest.

The announcement does not mention exactly which character she calls a distant relative, although there are plenty of tech geniuses that have been established in the CW series "Arrow" and "The Flash," as well as some that have yet to appear (like Ted Kord).

Staite has enjoyed a lengthy career in television starring in a number of fan-favorite genre properties. She played Kaylee Frye on the Joss Whedon series "Firefly" and in its follow-up feature film "Serenity" more recently she's appeared on "Stargate Atlantis" and "The Killing."

"Legends of Tomorrow" premieres on the CW on Thursday, Jan. 21 at 8 PM ET.

Firefly Reunion On Castle: Summer Glau Set To Play New Private Eye

A Firefly Reunion Is Taking Flight On Castle.

Summer Glau has signed on to guest-star opposite her onetime Serenity Captain Nathan Fillion in a spring episode of the ABC drama.

Glau will play Kendall Frost, a provocative private detective in Los Angeles who competes with - you guessed it - Castle to solve a deadly mystery. She will appear in this season's 14th episode.

Fillion recently re-teamed with Glau in an episode of fellow Firefly alum Alan Tudyk's meta-cheeky web series Con Man.

The actress is hardly the first Firefly vet to visit Fillion's current stomping ground. Adam Baldwin and Gina Torres have also popped up on the show, with the former appearing for the second time this past fall.

Glau's TV credits include The Sarah Connor Chronicles, Dollhouse, Alphas and, more recently, Arrow, where she recurred as CEO/assassin Isabel Rochev.

Castle resumes its current eighth season on Monday, Feb. 1.

"[Angie Harmon and Sasha Alexander] have had a really satisfying experience. I don't know that they wouldn't do anymore, "Reilly added, "but they felt very comfortable that It's had a good run. Everyone said, "Let's go out and finish 13 great ones and call it a day."

Rizzoli's 13-episode Season 7 count marked its smallest order since its 10-episode freshman season.

Former Supergirl Laura Vandervoort Heads To Supergirl

Laura Vandervoort will guest-star on an upcoming episode of Supergirl, the producers announced on set during the Television Critics Association's press tour on Monday.

The Bitten star, who played Supergirl on Smallville, will portray DC Comics superheroine-turned-villain Indigo for a recurring role in episode 15. Indigo is described by producers as a living, strong-willed supercomputer that was sentenced to Fort Rozz after turning against the people of Krypton. Now on Earth, Indigo will let nothing stand in her way.

Vandervoort is not the first former Supergirl to appear on the CBS series. Helen Slater has appeared in at least two episodes as Kara and Alex's mother, and all three former Supergirls will unite in an episode later this season.

In other Supergirl news, we'll meet the show's take on Master Jailer. Jeff Branson will recur as the forceful and unrelenting jail guard on Fort Rozz who showed no mercy. Now on Earth, he is hellbent on catching all of the Fort Rozz escapees and brutally bringing them to justice.

"One word: Chains," executive producer Andrew Kreisberg says.

Also, the upcoming 13th episode is inspired by Alan Moore's Superman story"For the Man Who Has Everything," in which Kara finds herself back on Krypton with no knowledge of how or why she's there.

Supergirl airs Mondays at 8 p.m. ET on CBS.

"Homeland" Season 6 Heading Back To America

It was Showtime's turn at the Television Critics Association yesterday with their various series being discussed with reporters.

The network's biggest hit "Homeland" will shift its setting once again for the sixth season. After being mostly in Pakistan for the fourth and Germany for the fifth, the upcoming season will be both set and shot in and around New York City.

Showtime's David Nevins confirms the domestic setting for the new season and would not give a definitive answer as to the fate of fan favorite Quinn (Rupert Friend) who was last seen in a hospital room. He does say that: "Quinn is very damaged, no question about that. If he should live, he won't be in the shape and form he was."

Asked for a potential end to the series, Nevins says it's up to the showrunners but adds": "It's not imminent."

Netflix Ready For "Marvel's Punisher" Series?

Netflix is reportedly very close to greenlighting "The Punisher," a new "Daredevil" spinoff series centered on the Marvel Comics gun-toting vigilante character as portrayed by actor Jon Bernthal.

Bernthal first appears as the character, also known as Frank Castle, in the upcoming second season of "Marvel's Daredevil" which will debut on March 18th. Early buzz on his work is said to be overwhelmingly positive.

Netflix and Marvel reps declined to comment on the project which would mark the sixth Marvel project at the streaming giant alongside four solo and one team-up project.

I would imagine a 'Dredd' series will be in the pipeline somewhere along the line.

Netflix Confirms "Jessica Jones" Renewal

Netflix has confirmed that its acclaimed second Marvel Comics based series "Jessica Jones" has been renewed for a second season of thirteen episodes.

The only surprise about the long-awaited renewal is that it took so long. The series premiered in November to strong reviews, even better than that of Marvel and Netflix's first collaboration "Daredevil," with Krysten Ritter scoring great notices as the private detective with superhuman abilities and trying to rebuild her life.

The series was one of five original series ordered that were based on the characters in the comic giant's universe, the third is "Luke Cage" which is expected to premiere around mid-year. Still no real word on the "Iron Fist" or "The Defenders" mini-series, but Netflix's CCO Ted Sarandos says "We're still on the five we originally announced."

Both 'Cage' and the second season of 'Jones' will join the second season of "Daredevil" in terms of likely 2016 air dates. There's also a potential "The Punisher" spin-off series in the works at the streaming giant, but that's not confirmed.

I thought it was good, glad to see it renewed.

Mbatha-Raw, Davis Join "Black Mirror" Remake

British star Gugu Mbatha-Raw ("Concussion") and Canadian star Mackenzie Davis ("The Martian") are both set to guest star on one of the episodes of the upcoming Netflix original series "Black Mirror".

A U.S. remake of the British sci-fi and darkly satirical anthology series about technology, twelve all-new episodes are being produced for the streaming service.

Owen Harris ("Kill Your Friends") will helm this specific episode. Created and written by Charlie Brooker, he and Annabel Jones are serving as executive producers.

I remember watching Black Mirror a few years ago, Hayley Atwell was in one of the episodes she looked totally different in the role she was playing. Such a cool show!

The Knick's Juliet Rylance, Defiance's Stephanie Leonidas Join CBS' Summer Mystery Thriller American Gothic

CBS is rounding out the cast of its 13-episode summer series American Gothic, adding The Knick's Juliet Rylance and Defiance's Stephanie Leonidas as series regulars.

Gabriel Bateman, best known as Dylan McDermott's son on Stalker, has also boarded the mystery thriller.

The trio join the previously cast Antony Starr (Banshee), Justin Chatwin (Shameless) and Megan Ketch (Jane the Virgin).

From Good Wife/Jane the Virgin scribe Corinne Brinkerhoff and Steven Spielberg's Amblin Television, the drama - which bears no connection to the short-lived, Shaun Cassidy-produced American Gothic series that aired on CBS in the mid'90s - centers on a prominent Boston family that is attempting to redefine itself in the wake of a chilling discovery that links their recently deceased patriarch to a string of murders spanning decades, all amid the mounting suspicion that one of them may have been his accomplice.

Rylance will play Alison, a poised, driven Boston councilwoman in the midst of a heated campaign for mayor, while Leonidas is set as the seductive, irresistible, drug-addled Sophie, the estranged wife of Chatwin's Cam. Lastly, Bateman will portray Sophie and Cam's precocious son Jack.

It's not clear how Rylance's American Gothic duties would impact her participation in a potential third season of The Knick (it may be a moot point, as her character was seemingly written off in December's Season 2 finale). Leonidas' three-season Defiance run, meanwhile, came to an end last fall when Syfy cancelled the series.

Legends Of Tomorrow: Jonah Hex To Be Played By Johnathon Schaech

Johnathon Schaech's conventionally attractive face is about to get plastered with one ugly scar.

Schaech has been cast on DC's Legends of Tomorrow - The CW's imminent Arrow/The Flash offshoot - as the DC Comics outlaw Jonah Hex.

"Ever since we decided that Legends would involve time travel, "says exec producer Marc Guggenheim in a statement, "we were eager to do a story set in the Old West. But if you're going to do a story set in the DC Universe version of the Old West, you simply must include Jonah Hex in it. We're thrilled about bringing another well-known, beloved DC character to television."

Hex is described as a "true legend" of the Old West, a morally ambiguous gunslinger with a penchant for danger. Surprisingly, he knows a thing or two about time travel and the future, but is at home in the Wild West. Having battled outlaws and gangs for a while now, he advises Rip Hunter's team of time travelers to be extra careful when they arrive in the small town of Salvation.

Legends debuts this Thursday at 8/7c, Schaech - whose recent TV credits include Quantico, Texas Rising, Star-Crossed and Ray Donovan - will first guest-star in Episode 11, with a possibility to recur.
