Top 10 Underused Joss Whedon Characters, at SFX

3. Bennett Halverson

Stills

From: Dollhouse

Who: Scientist at Rossum Corporation

Quote
History: As Caroline’s roommate, Bennett supports her in trying to bring down Rossum. They attempt to blow up the corporation together but Bennett gets caught in the explosion. Caroline struggles to help but has to leave her, and Bennett can’t forgive her for this. She is kidnapped by the LA Dollhouse and is later killed by Dr Saunders/Whiskey, a sleeper doll.

Why she needs more screen time: Bennett has an oasis of unexplored avenues, from her behaviour following her accident, to her moral thoughts concerning working for Rossum, and most importantly, would a relationship with Topher have worked out? It certainly would’ve led to some epic inventions, and perhaps she could have helped to prevent the technological apocalypse we see in the “Epitaph” episodes.

Let’s Cast More Joss Whedon Shakespeare Adaptations
By Jason Bailey at flavorwire

Summer Glau photoshoot - Kate Romero

Quote
Hamlet

For Mr. Whedon’s chief contender, he’s going to have to cast carefully; the role of the melancholy Dane is one of the toughest in the English language. This is heavier stuff than his actors are usually forced to shoulder — but there’s something about James Marsters, aka Spike, that makes him seem capable of the dramatic lifting. In later years, he nicely captured the role’s tragic underpinnings, and (bonus) we know he can do a faux-British accent, if necessary. And in the role of his tragic victim Ophelia? She’s got a delicateness, physicality, and (ultimately) madness that screams Summer Glau.

Joss Whedon: 20 greatest moments from 'Buffy', 'Firefly', more, By Emma Dibdin at digitalspy

Summer Glau in Firefly 1.14 Objects in Space

Quote
Firefly, Season 1, Episode 14 'Objects in Space' (2002)
The final episode of Firefly was far from a satisfactory finale to a show that was cancelled before it had even begun to spread its wings. But it's one of the show's strongest episodes; Summer Glau's traumatised River gets the chance to shine after a half season of scant development, and bounty hunter Jubel Early's encounters with the entire crew are revealing and compelling. it's a haunting, lovely, strange and thought-provoking coda to a show that should have run for years.

As a certified nerd, I’ve been a fan of Summer Glau’s since Firefly, and I’ve loved her in everything she’s ever done. Her role as Tess Doerner in The 4400 was especially haunting; her deadpan-doe-eyes made for an convincing terminator robot and arguably the best part of The Sarah Conor Chronicles; she was a more than adequate insane adversary Eliza Dushku in Dollhouse; she tugged our heartstrings as a reclusive genius matron in Alphas; and she was of course her awesome self in an episode of The Big Bang Theory. Needless to say, Summer (or Summer’s agent) has a bit of a nerd streak, and Glau’s fans have remained loyal throughout her career. I doubt any of us would deny having Summer Glau desktop wallpaper at one time or another, because let’s face it- She’s a babe.

"Summer Glau – Spicy Sci-Fi Queen of The Hour", published at spicymoviedogs

Quote
Sexy, unconventional beauty, and always badass in her roles, Summer Glau is the definition of a Sci-Fi queen even though her star is still rising and she is relatively unknown to the casual movie watcher. Summer is probably best known for her roles as River Tam in Firefly/Serenity, and Cameron in Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles. She is normally cast as a lithe femme fatale, or a brainy nerd girl who sits behind a pc.
Summer has a really attractive smile—which we barely get to see—but her eyes can switch to a piercing look that signals danger whenever she’s about to kick some ass. She was born in San Antonio Texas and is a critically acclaimed ballet dancer (no wonder movies keeps her doing splits).
What do we love about Summer Glau?

Summer is miss reliability and is normally the one spark in an otherwise dull movie or show that people remember. We love that she likes being a Sci-Fi queen and brings her all to the table even when it seems to be a relatively small project.

Star Wars Episode 7: 10 Geek Actors Who Must Be Cast

Quote
9. Summer Glau

Geek Credentials: Playing River Tam on Joss Whedon’s cult classic sci-fi show Firefly and also its spin-off movie, Serenity, starring as Terminator Cameron Phillips on the TV show Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, and starring in upcoming cosplay flick Knights of Badassdom.

Who She Should Play: Glau would be fantastic as a fellow Padawan and love interest for whoever the protagonist apprentice ends up being this time. Glau, a former ballet dancer, is extremely adept at roles that require a lot of physicality, and given how Star Wars is often derided for not having more female characters with real agency, her casting would diminish those criticisms right out of the gate.

The Big Bang Theory star Melissa Rauch talks the seventh season of the CBS's comedy at fanshare and point out that they will struggle to get anyone that can beat the guest stars they have had in the past.
Good point! The author of the article mentions a few guest stars that previously appeared on TBBT, including Summer Glau:

In the past, we have had the likes of Summer Glau, Stephen Hawking, George Takei, Buzz Aldrin and Stan Lee, to name just a few.

Summer Glau made it into the Hufftingtonpost list of 27 Women Warriors Kicking Ass On TV, for her role as River Tam in Joss Whedon tv show Firefly.

Quote
River Tam, ‘Firefly’
Did You Know: Actress Summer Glau was a classically trained ballerina before channeling her grace into her character’s own elegant fight choreography as the unassumingly deadly River Tam.

"3 Reasons TV Actors Should Be In Films More Often", at oracleoffilm.com

Summer Glau, as well and Joss Whedon's 'Serenity' and Arrow's Stephen Amell are mentioned.

Quote
I am sure anyone that watches a fair amount of TV has their favorite TV actors. It’s why people are getting so excited that Summer Glau is going to be in the next Arrow season and why I would kill a family of squirrels to sniff Alyson Hannigan’s hair (wow… that got weird fast!) Anyway, I am sure many of you want to see these actors break into films, so you can see your TV heroes in a big budget blockbuster.

"10 Badass TV Characters We'd Like to See on Orange is the New Black", at comediva.

Quote
Netflix's Orange is the New Black has caused quite the stir with its complete amazingness, giving audiences an array of diverse badass female protagonists to root for inside the fictional Litchfield, NY prison. But what other TV characters would we love to see interact with Chapman and friends? Or better yet, beat the crap out of Pornstache and Healy?

7. River Tam (Firefly)

River was brain-tortured by evil space scientists for awhile, so I'm pretty sure she could handle, well, anything at Litchfield. This girl can kill Reavers (see above), fly a spaceship, and can also be super cute when she wants. I could see her and Suzanne hanging out, but unfortunately I don't think River would be down to be anyone's wife.

The Top 10 Characters We Want to See on Marvel's Agents of SHIELD - Summer Glau as Quake (Daisy Johnson)

Quote
Quake (Daisy Johnson) — Summer Glau

What's a Joss Whedon series without Summer Glau? The Firefly and Dollhouse alum could play the S.H.I.E.L.D. agent with the ability to create seismic waves, aka earthquakes. And since the pilot introduces — SPOILER ALERT — the "caterpillar" project, it seems possible that could eventually evolve into Fury's other secret caterpillar teams, which include Daisy.

The best part about those cast wish lists is that I discover Comic book characters I've never heard about before smile

Everything becomes clear now! Jameron fans are not sensitive to the Uncanny Valley phenomenom while Anti-Jameron are.

TSCC Poster - Summer Glau as Cameron

Here's an excerpt from an article titled "Celluloid Androids: The Big Screen's Fascination with Robots" published by J.C. Macek III.

Quote
Arnold’s “rod” aside, there has been a modicum of sexuality in the Terminator franchise. Kristanna Loken’s character of “T-X” from 2003’s Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines initially appears as a beautiful and fully naked blonde fantasy girl, who soon straps on skin-tight leather (and is often known by her alternative, sexier title “The Terminatrix”). She may appear to be most men’s guilty fantasy until the liquid metal is stripped away and we see the horror that lies beneath. Later in the TV spinoff Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles (2008), we are introduced to Cameron, the beautiful young student played by ballerina-turned-actress Summer Glau. Cameron looks like the young woman anyone would be excited to date and the audience can almost believe her when she cries real tears and says “I love you, John!” but promotional materials often showed a damaged or partially dismembered Glau, still in sexy (or even limited) attire. This vision of an objectively beautiful woman who is revealed to be a partially disassembled robot is horrifying because it is almost enticing and because the imagery plays upon our innate fears of reduction, displacement and annihilation [Uncanny Valley reaction].

I disagree with this vision, probably because I'm a Jameron fan.

And if you have idea what I'm talking about, read the complete article at PopMatters

12 Women Joss Whedon Made Me Find Attractive
DEC. 6, 2012 By GABY DUNN

Here's the part on Summer Glau.

Firefly Promotional photos

Quote
This girl certainly knows how to play crazy. Her performance as River Tam earned her a permanent place in my heart, but her adorable radiance earned her a place on this list. Summer Glau has become an ultimate nerd crush (even appearing as such on The Big Bang Theory) for similar reasons as to why I find Dichen Lichenden so pretty — this otherworldly, alien-esque beauty that is so interesting and appealing to the eye. In layman’s terms: She’s hot.
