Behind the Name of Christina Aguilera’s Baby Girl Summer

Singer Christina Aguilera and her fiance Matthew Rutler had a baby girl this weekend. Her name is Summer Rain Rutler. It’s their first child together, Aguilera has a six-year-old son, Max, from her first marriage.

The name Summer might sound unusual to most Americans, but in the entertainment business it’s the new Sophia. Many talented young women named Summer are excelling in their careers. There’s Olympic gold medal swimmer Summer Sanders who’s now a sports commentator, Summer Glau who starred in the TV show Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, and (the closest to Aguilera’s profession) Summer Watson the British operatic soprano. After all, summer is hot.

The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge is doubling as a celebrity birth announcement.

Like Zoe Saldana before her, Hayden Panettiere confirmed she is pregnant with her first child while recording her Ice Bucket Challenge video.

"I accept my ALS Challenge. I renominate Kacey Musgraves -- you're not getting out of this -- Wladimir Klitschko and my unborn child," the 25-year-old actress says in the clip before pointing to her belly.

It sort of contradicts a statement she made in her 2011 interview with Esquire magazine:
