Fantastic Opening Moments To TV Shows / Game Of Thrones
Game of Thrones would blossom from its humble first scene, into a full-grown phenomenon, catapulting its stars into wider limelights and constantly shocking its audience with sharp twists and turns at every corner. But it was from that first scene that out journey first began, and what a first scene it was.
The show opens with a snow-capped landscape, a giant wall of ice and three horsemen investigating a Narnia-esque forest, only to come across ritualistic decapitations. It"s a bold way to start a show, as it shocks the audience from the off, and gives us a mystery to ponder from the starting gun, Ser Waymar Royce"s taunt of "Do the dead frighten you?" is as chilling as the surroundings, and though the show warms up over the course of the episode - both atmospherically and setting wise - it never forgets the tone of this freezing beginning.
It"s a captivating idea to throw a show in at the deep end before introducing any particular characters, but the opening scene of Game of Thrones relies on a very simple idea, just because the start of a TV series should be slow-burning and gradual, it doesn"t mean it can"t be thrilling or horrifying.

Game Of Thrones Season 3 DVD Breaks UK Box Set Record
Game of Throne"s third season has become the fastest-selling TV box set in a decade, shifting nearly 190,000 units in its first week.
The HBO fantasy series racked up £5.4 million in sales last week and was one of Amazon"s biggest ever TV pre-order titles.
Sales were up 48% on the show"s second season.
Thrones airs exclusively on Sky Atlantic in the UK and has been available on streaming services such as blinkbox since last summer.
"What is particularly pleasing to see is that Game of Thrones has sold exceptionally well digitally too, proving that DVD & Blu-ray can sit alongside the newer digital download technology," said HBO"s Home Entertainment marketing director Ian Fullerton.
It also picked up the BAFTA Audience Award in 2013.
HBO airs the season 4 premiere of Game of Thrones on Sunday, April 6.
It arrives in the UK on Sky Atlantic one day later.

Game Of Thrones Showrunners Sign Up For Seasons 5 & 6
Game Of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss have signed up for two more seasons.
HBO is yet to officially renew the show past its upcoming fourth season, though this new deal would see Benioff and Weiss continue up till the end of season six, Entertainment Weekly reports.
The pair recently suggested that Game Of Thrones - one of HBO"s biggest hits - will likely draw to a close after seven seasons.
George RR Martin - author of the fantasy novels on which the series is based - has also claimed that the show could get a big-screen spinoff.
The fourth season of Game Of Thrones will debut on April 6 on HBO. In the UK, the new episodes will air on Sky Atlantic from April 7.
New cast members include Mark Gatiss (Sherlock), Joel Fry (Plebs), Indira Varma (Luther) and Pedro Pascal (Homeland, The Good Wife), who will play Prince Oberyn Martell - aka The Red Viper.

"Game of Thrones" Gets Record Ratings: Biggest Audience Since "Sopranos" Finale
All hail HBO"s Game of Thrones. The fourth-season premiere of the fantasy delivered the show"s biggest audience yet: 6.6 million viewers. That makes Sunday"s Thrones HBO"s most-watched program since The Sopranos series finale in 2007. Two replays of the Thrones episode drove the show"s full-night tally up to 8.2 million viewers.
By comparison, season 3 opened to 4.4 million viewers and eventually peaked at 5.5 million for the sixth episode (no, the Red Wedding was not a record high, and nor was the finale, which delivered 5.4 million).
Last season Thrones averaged 14.4 million viewers per episode, second only to The Sopranos as HBO"s most-watched series. This year, Thrones might very well overtake the classic mob drama to claim the premium cable network"s all-time crown, especially given its history of growing its audience as a season progresses.
Online viewership was also immense as HBO Go, the pay cabler"s streaming service, crashed during the premiere with many receiving a "fatal error" message, which HBO attributed to "overwhelming demand."

Game Of Thrones Season 5 To Get Cersei Nude Scene
Fans will see actress Lena Headey bare all in Game of Thrones season 5.
Cersei Lannister"s controversial nude scene in the upcoming fifth series of fantasy epic Game of Thrones has finally been given the go-ahead after producers reached a compromise with officials in Croatia.
Producer"s plans for Cersei - portrayed by actress Lena Headey - to bare all had originally been held up but have now been given the go-ahead.
Fans of George R. R Martin"s A Song of Ice and Fire novel series will know that Cersei"s naked walk of shame is coming up in the hotly-anticipated series 5, but producers nearly had to scrap the scene after complaints.
Shot in the Croatian capital Dubrovnik, the city"s Catholic Church of St Nicholas opposed a request to film on "immoral" grounds.
The church opposes public nudity but a compromise has now been reached, a report that producers will be allowed to film Cersei"s nude scene through Stadun Street to the Sponza Palace on the proviso that she is not filmed naked in a place of worship.
Not sure, I wonder maybe a body double.

As if it wasn't difficult enough, a nude scene with Lena Headey implies you hide her tatoos. I too think they will hire a body double, and not just because of the tatoos.
Queen Elizabeth II meets cast members of the HBO TV series 'Game of Thrones' Lena Headey and Conleth Hill as she views some of the props including the Iron Throne on set in Belfast's Titanic Quarter on June 24, 2014 in Belfast, Northern Ireland. The Royal party are visiting Northern Ireland for three days.
Lena Headey arrives at the 66th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards at Nokia Theatre L.A. Live on August 25, 2014 in Los Angeles, California.

A Dead Character Is Making A Comeback In Game Of Thrones Season 5
"You haven"t seen the last of Tywin Lannister."
Guess who is making a surprise comeback in Game of Thrones season five.
Charles Dance has revealed that despite his grisly end via crossbow (on the toilet), there will be still some Tywin Lannister in the show next year.
Fans of the books will know that there is potential for Tywin to return to the show in a flashback sequence, but Dance refused to reveal whether that was how he would be making a cameo.
Game of Thrones season five starts on HBO and Sky Atlantic in 2015.

"Game of Thrones" Scores A Flashback
The producers of HBO's "Game of Thrones" D.B. Weiss and David Benioff, are set to include something in the fifth season that the show has carefully avoided so far - flashbacks.
During a Q&A with film students at an event in the Spanish city of Seville, where production is currently underway on the series, the pair dropped the following quote which was picked up by Los Siete Reinos:
"Making the first season, we set a rule: No prophecies, dreams, or flashbacks. We already failed the first two, and this season we broke the third. So yes, this season will finally have flashbacks."
EW has some further information on this, saying that the season will sport only one flashback, and at present they are planning it to be the opening scene of the season premiere.

'Game Of Thrones' Mania Hits Spain As 86,000 Apply For Roles
Game of Thrones is conquering Spain: The HBO fantasy hit's production is enjoying an overwhelming response since filming started in the country two weeks ago.
When the local production company Fresco Film put out a casting call for roughly 600 extras for a key battle Thrones scene, fans responded with an incredible 86,000 applications. The company needed to add more server space to accommodate the load. Many applicants needed the work, but one hired extra told the production he took a vacation from his high-level banking job to be on the show.
Meanwhile, others have clamored to get a glimpse of the show's cast., with one even asking a random production staffer to post for a photo merely because he was wearing a Thrones badge.
To some extent, Spain's response reflects the ongoing global fandom growth of HBO's most popular series ever. Ratings climb each season and this year hit 19 million viewers in the United States when viewership is measured across all platforms. But Spain is perhaps primed to be more appreciative than most - Thrones has hired more than 1,000 locals across its production and is expected to generate millions for the country's economy which has been climbing out of a deep recession (For example, Thrones generated $32 million for Northern Ireland last year).
Thrones typically shoots in Northern Ireland and Croatia, and this year added Spain, largely for scenes set in the show's fictional country of Dorne. James Costos says Spain has already seen uptick in tourism since the location was first announced by EW earlier this year.

Women Who Kicked 2014's Ass
Brienne of Tarth
TV Show: "Game of Thrones"
Actress: Gwendoline Christie
Why she's a badass:
In what is one of the most realistic, desperate brawls ever put on television, Brienne of Tarth bit off The Hound's ear. Just straight up ripped it off and spit it on the ground. Then she defeated him in single combat. Hulk-strengthing her way to survival. That not enough for you? she also tacitly admitted to Cersei that she's in love with Jaime and SURVIVED.
