The Santa Monica pier has been used many times as a backdrop for movies and TV shows. The 100-year-old amusement park includes the beach, of course, a Ferris wheel, a carousel hippodrome - which was made famous by the 1973 movie "The Sting" starring Paul Newman and Robert Redford -, streets performers and is a popular destination for families and tourists.
A scene of Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles season 2 episode 3 'The Mousetrap', featuring John Connor tracked down by Cromartie and Cameron, was filmed at Santa Monica Pier and is an obvious nod to Terminator 2.
Check out this Behind the Scenes video shot on Tuesday July 29, 2008, showing Summer Glau as Cameron Phillips as she is looking for John - who ditched her earlier in the episode - in Santa Monica Pier.
As mentioned in the title of this blog post, it seems Terminators love to chase John Connor in Santa Monica. Because this scene in TSCC recalls in an unmistakable way a scene at the beginning of Terminator 2, in which Arnold Schwarzenegger's T-800 and the T-1000 were both looking for young John Connor, filmed at Santa Monica Place (they called it "The Galleria" in the movie), a shopping mall located two blocks from the beach and Santa Monica Pier (see map below).
And if you're not convinced of the similarities, the scene at 1:02 of the video in which Cameron looks with curiosity and interest at a street performer disguised as a shiny silver robot is directly inspired by the scene in T2 in which the T-1000 looks at a shop-window dummy (see screenshots from TSCC and Terminator 2 below).
