In 2002, the cult hit television series "Firefly" aired on Fox Television. In 2004, Universal Pictures gave "Firefly" creator Joss Whedon the chance to bring his unique vision of the future to the big screen.

I think a lot of the networks are trnyig to do the sci fi or superhero thing since they are big in the movies. Unfortunately most TV budgets can't handle the amount and quality of the VFX in movies. Sometimes that's a good thing when they decide to focus more on characters and story, but it's bad when they try to copy big budget movies and make it all action but can't compete and it ends up looking kind of weak.
