The (almost) entire cast of Joss Whedon‘s sci-fi western is reuniting at Comic-Con International San Diego next week for Firefly‘s tenth anniversary (see news) and of course fans are eager to know if there will be a continuation in one form or another.
Sean Maher was interviewed at this year Oz Comic Con (Australia) and asked exactly that point-blank; unfortunately, Sean Maher has no idea if a reboot of Firefly is already underway. But then he starts yammering on how he didn’t know about Serenity til Joss was writing the script and mentions how Joss Whedon told him and Summer Glau that a film based on Firefly was in the making :
Sean Maher: I have nothing to tell you but I would be lying if I wasn’t thinking that myself. Everyone always asks are you making another one? And I’m like “I don’t know” because I really don’t know, but I don’t underestimate the power of Joss and now he has 10,000 times more power than he has ever had and it just seems like opportunities would be at his fingertips. I just saw him last week for ADR (addition dialogue recording) for Much Ado About Nothing and he didn’t mention anything but when Serenity was being made, I wasn’t privy to all the early development discussions. I was having dinner at his house, Summer [Glau] and I came over and Joss was cooking us dinner and I remember he was makin’ a Chilean seabass and he said “oh by the way I’m heading to cape cod to write the movie (Serenity)” and I was like “I’m sorry what?!?” And I still kind of didn’t believe him until the table read and we sat down and read the Serenity script and here we were with all of these people that I loved so much and these characters that I love so much and to just hear the words spoken again, that was when it really sunk in, so if there is something going on and I’m not being kept in the loop about it, I wouldn’t be surprised. He never ceases to surprise me.
Based on that anecdote, what if Joss Whedon has some ideas for a Firefly continuation and is developing them in secret?

We have updated the gallery with a collector, the Official Serenity Movie Magazine, with huge thank you to Kali from summerglaudaily.com for providing the scans.
The Official Serenity Movie Magazine was published by Titan Magazines (the publisher of the Buffy and Angel Official Magazines) on September 13th, 2005 in the United States; it offers the Firefly fans "a look behind the scenes into the mind of Joss Whedon".
The magazine is chocked full of great articles and tidbits about the movie, with almost 100 pages. Here is a run down of what the magazine contains :
Illustrator Jason Palmer loves Sci-Fi and its characters. Not only does he draw like-looking portraits but he also takes good care of capturing the personalities of the characters and it gives his stunning illustrations a feeling that he "gets" them the way we would have expected.
Besides his work on Star Wars, TSCC or Indiana Jones, Palmer has completed several limited-edition licensed Firefly/Serenity art prints that you can get through SerenityPrint.com (also on t-shirts) or catch him at his booth on conventions.
I have selected samples of his work, featuring Summer Glau of course.

A columnist at iofilm.co.uk who attended the press conference wrote :
There was clearly a lot of camaraderie amongst the cast, good-natured banter batted back and forth and they laughed at each other's jokes, which is always a good sign. There was a lot of male love in the room for Summer Glau, an ex-ballet dancer who plays River Tam and who trained to do 95% of her character's stunts. Joss (we're on first name terms now) will be making Wonder Woman next, and I wouldn't be gasping in surprise if Summer dons the spangly hot pants and armbands. Although she's a bit short to convince as an Amazon.
Ain't It Cool News and The Rolling Road Shows (Alamo Drafthouse Cinema) hosted a Serenity early premiere on 28th September 2005 near to Austin, Texas, at the ranch where they constructed the sets for the movie "The Alamo”. In the middle of the courtyard stood a huge inflatable screen and hey had Chinese take-out snacks as their themed meal (nod to Serenity) before the screening.
Summer Glau and Jewel Staite were in attendance and did a Q & A session after the film.
Jewel and Summer talked about an inside joke they had :

Serenity premiered in France at the 31st Deauville Festival of American Film on September 3, 2005, in Deauville, Normandy.
The Deauville Festival of American Film is a European showcase for mainly American movies; this is a very popular film festival in France (second only to Cannes!). It is a launching pad for both independent and studio movies in Europe. This is the festival where you can run into Spielberg and Kevin Smith on the same day!
