Following the saga of the Knights of Badassdom movie poster has sharpened my eye, thus allowing me to spot this cover art variant on the Australian Blu-ray and DVD releases.
In the Australian cover art, you can see from left to right Jimmi Simpson, Summer Glau, Ryan Kwanten, Peter Dinklage, Steve Zahn and Danny Pudi, like in the U.S. version. But the difference is that Summer Glau's character Gwen is holding up her shiny sword with her two hands (the Photoshop work is very bad by the way) and her head is turned in the right direction. The look of the back cover is completely new and features prominently Peter Dinklage's character Hung.
Check out the Australian cover arts in all their LARPing gory (er, glory) below. An image of the U.S. Blu-ray cover is displayed next to the Australian covers to allow a comparison between them.
The KNIGHTS OF BADASSDOM are here to save the world, in this madcap medieval comedy. Game of Thrones Peter Dinklage,Ryan Kwanten,Steve Zahn and Summer Glau star as a group of role playing misfits who must do battle against a real world threat from another dimension.
Joe Lynch gives exclusive information about his Knights of Badassdom cut, reveals the name of a famous action star who has seen Lynch's cut and loved it, and gives hope to all the fans who wants to see the unreleased version of the horror comedy starring Peter Dinklage, Summer Glau, Ryan Kwanten, Steve Zahn, Margarita Levieva, Danny Pudi and Jimmi Simpson.
Joe Lynch was at Fantastic Fest in Austin, Texas in September 2014 for the world premiere of his Salma Hayek high-octane, high-body count, bulletfest of an action movie 'Everly'. Entertainment site We Got This Covered interviewed Lynch about Everly but could not pass the opportunity to talk about Knights of Badassdom.
Here's an excerpt from Lynch's interview:
Kurt Russell watched *my cut* of Knights Of Badassdom and said it was better than Ghostbusters. MY CUT! Not the one that went out, the version I had.
Lynch must be particularly proud to have been validated by Snake Plissken himself, since he revealed his son’s middle name is "Plissken". Verily!
Later in the interview, Lynch talks about scenes that were cut in the released version and why.
WGTC: So I have to end talking about Knights Of Badassdom. Your cut exists. People have seen it. Kurt freaking Russell has seen it and loved it. Others rave about it. Why hasn’t the public seen it yet and when are we going to? This is something that needs to happen.
Joe Lynch: No comment! [winks emphatically] I’ll tell you this – eOne has approached me about [my cut]. The version released was extremely successful on VOD and Blu-Ray, EXTREMELY successful, and look, there’s a lot of fans of the movie. If you didn’t know anything about the controversy, you’d think it’s a fun little romp. It’s just unfortunate that I was never given a DGA (Directors Guild Of America) screening, and that’s mandatory. My version has been seen – Kurt Russell saw it and said it was better than Ghostbusters – do I need to say anymore? I was making The Goonies for grownups where the final product ended up being more Role Models with the little bit of blood they couldn’t cut out and were stuck with.
WGTC: I sat there watching Knights Of Badassdom knowing full-well your version probably contains so many decapitations, bloody battles, and absolute insanity, and THAT’S what I want to see. Is that pretty on-point?
Joe Lynch: Oh completely, but it’s not even that. There’s a whole 10 minute ending that was cut purely for financial reasons. They didn’t want to finish the special effects and the owner didn’t like someone’s dress. I was like, “Come on, really? That’s the reason why?” He was like, “No, of course not!” Yea, whatever, that was the reason why.
But yes, someday my version will be released, it will definitely happen.

Can't wait to see Joe Lynch's version of Knights of Badassdom, a.k.a. "Tyrion Lannister and River Tam go LARPing"! Please make it happen.
Summer glau plays hot, ass-kicking, intimidating LARPer Gwen in Joe Lynch's horror comedy "Knights of Badassdom". It is a pleasure to see her slaying her enemies with her sword in her LARP leather costume.
Here's your chance to bring home a piece of Summer's costume. Handmade leather LARP armor pauldrons are auctioned off on eBay by the local Spokane craftman who made them for Summer Glau's Gwen. Though you don't see Gwen wearing these armor pauldrons on the movie because "it was decided they drew attention from her face during closeup shots".
Find below the description of the auction, as well as exclusive photos of Summer's leather costume, including the armor pauldrons, her skirt and bracers. The auction ends soon, so check it out and place your bid if you want to own a piece of Summer's costume in Knights of Badassdom.
Handmade leather LARP armor pauldrons
You will be receiving : 2 handmade leather LARP armor pauldrons for SUMMER GLAU on the set of KNIGHTS of BADASSDOM; the bracers and belt/skirt are for reference ONLY and are NOT INCLUDED IN THIS AUCTION. Thanks!
I made most of the leather armor, belts, pouches, scabbards accoutrements for all the principal actors in the movie KNIGHTS of BADASSDOM.
These are a pair of pauldrons that Summer Glau and I collaborated on as a design and I constructed for her. She wore them during costume rehearsals but it was decided they drew attention from her face during closeup shots (don't ask me why), so she did not wear them in the movie.
You can see in the picture that they match the greco-roman armored skirt she wears and the pauldrons attached at the conchos on her bodice straps. I made her skirt and bracers too, but they are pictured only for reference.
UPDATE: Bidding has ended. Winning bid:US $41.00 [ 5 bids ]
Side note: The local Spokane craftsman who made the leather pieces for Gunther, Hung, Gwen, and most Knights of Badassdom actors has mentioned earlier that his "12 year old daughter has the same measurements as Summer Glau so it was easy to make her costume fit". I presume it is her who wears the leather pauldrons in the photos above.
French website homecinema-fr.com has published in its weekly magazine an off-kilter and sarcastic review of Joe Lynch's horror comedy "Knights of Badassdom".
Find below the two pages of the digital magazine, published online on May 2, 2014:

Side note: Considering the author of the review decided to look at "Knights of Badassdom" from a quirky angle, it would be nearly impossible to translate the article in English.
Since the release of the first official movie poster for Knights of Badassdom, we drew your attention to the fact that Summer Glau's name wasn't on top of the poster with her co-stars Ryan Kwanten, Steve Zahn and Peter Dinklage. Of course, it seemed really foolish to not put Summer Glau's name up top, as she has a large following among the targeted audience, and in many ways would be a huge selling point for a film like this. It's hard to say if it was a simple mistake from the studio who designed the poster, a deliberate intention to not have her name on top or if this is the way things have been negociated at the time they signed their contracts.
And while the Knights of Badassdom Blu-ray/DVD cover design unveiled recently was quite different from the official poster, Summer Glau didn't get top billing either. Thankfully, Knights of Badassdom marketing team have taken it upon themselves to make a top-billing correction. As we had hoped, a new version of the Blu-ray/DVD cover design showed up recently at Amazon.com, in which the cover art itself is the same but Summer Glau's name is now featured on top of the cover art. To some, that may sound like a deep-dive technical detail, but that is very important for an actress who has limited exposure, compared to True Blood's Ryan Kwanten or Game of Thrones's Peter Dinklage for example. Similarly, the Tugg page for Knights of Badassdom is now displaying a movie poster inwhich Summer Glau's name is featured on top and are providing this new poster to the local theaters where the horror comedy is screened.
I'm personally convinced that the untiring protest from fans and bloggers alike, and the online observations that Summer Glau was a main draw have played a big part in this top-billing revision.

And as the horror comedy starring Peter Dinklage, Ryan Kanten, Steve Zahn and Summer Glau prepares to take by storm our iPhones and tablets, they've released a smoldering new promo image featuring our wannabee LARPers in all their glory.
In the new image, the four characters are of equal size and most importantely Summer Glau's name is now listed on top (unlike in the official poster). Another significant change is a that a new image of Summer Glau's character Gwen has been used; Summer is represented holding in her arm a...firstarter (hey, it's a comedy after all) with a quiver on her back ( Arrow feels!).
Knights of Badassdom is currently showing in selected theaters and will be available On Demand February 11th, while the DVD/Blu-ray arrive on April 1st, 2014.
