Summer Glau went in Brisbane, Australia for the Supanova Pop Culture Expo, kicking off at the RNA Showgrounds on April 21, 2006 and running for three days, where she had a panel and autograph session.
As part of Supanova Expo, a special screening of Joss Whedon's Serenity took place at The Globe Theatre, Fortitude Valley, Brisbane, Australia on April 22. Summer Glau herself introduced the movie and field a few questions.
From the Supanova booklet:
"Supanova began the SFFF for special events that don't quite fit into the expo itself. This is one of those cases!
Serenity is a hit! It's just that it took a while for everyone but the most dedicated fans of Joss Whedon and sci-fi in general to work it out.
Now we all know and a huge part of that success can be directly attributed to the standout performance of Summer Glau as the traumatised telepath, River, firstly in Firefly, then in her coming of age, Serenity.
Therefore it's our great pleasure to invite you to attend a special screening of Serenity introduced personally by Supanova guest, Summer Glau."
I updated the Gallery with new photos (the first three) and the notes from a fan who attented the Serenity screening:
Summer Glau did a brief Q&A; before the movie. She was very grateful for the warm Aussie welcome that she had received. When asked what her most meaningful Firefly moment was, she said it was probably at the end of filming “Objects in Space“. She had been on set every single day, and at the end Joss gave her a big hug and said how proud he was of her. She got a little teary when she told about it.
She was also asked which was her favourite stunt, which she then attempted to sort of recreate even though it ended up not being used, because she hurt herself the first time she tried to do it on set.
Then there were a few other questions from people who just wanted to hear the sound of their own voices. And someone asked about her next project — which starts in Louisiana just after she returns from Oz, and it’s about a set of twins who figure out that they are witches or something like that.
Anyone who can tell what Summer Glau was trying to demonstrate in the first picture is welcome
