The Summer Glau fandom has been bubbling over with excitement ever since a photo featuring the Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles alumn and Scream's actor David Arquette standing in front of a huge robot surfaced online (see photo on the right).
After further investigations, we assume this is part of a promotional piece/documentary in the form of a web series on the making of a giant creature for Comic Con 2014 and Summer Glau is making a guest appearance as herself.
Find below the tidbits of informations that led us to make this assumption.
Not surprisingly, some fans have been hoping that Summer will be playing on an upcoming Terminator movies or TV show. Some others have noted the robot behind Summer is nothing like the robots from the Terminator franchise. In any case, everyone is curious to know what is actually behind this intriguing photo.
One of our member identified the robot in the photo as the giant robot mech cosplay that took by storm Comic Con 2013. Check out the video below:
This cleverly designed suit that employs animatronics to give the illusion of a lurching heavy mech was the fruit of the cosplay collaboration between WIRED, Youtube, Stan Winston Studios, Legacy Effects (the later two being leading FX companies who have worked on the Terminator, Aliens, Predator franchise to name a few), and Conde Cast Entertainment.
A mini-series titled "GIANT ROBOT MECH - YouTube Geek Week" showing how this colossus was built and also its debut at Comic Con 2013 has been released on WIRED and Stan Winston School Youtube channels.
And now a new 14-foot tall creature is being built for Comic Con 2014 as a collaboration between Stan Winston School, Legacy Effects, Conde Nast Entertainment and Stratasys. On this occasion, a new web series titled "GIANT CREATURES 2014", documenting the entire giant creature build will be produced.
Back to Summer Glau's involvement on the project.
While Summer has been photographed in front of the 2013 mech suit, we think she might be featured in a footage from the new web series that reminds us what happened at Comic Con 2013, before introducing the design of the 2014 creature. That also means she's not the star of a new TV show or web series (the giant creatures are). More, the fact she's wearing her own clothes in the photo (she' was wearing the same jacket at Dallas Comic Con 2014) also suggests she's just making a cameo as herself and the photo of her standing in front of a robot is there to recall her Terminator: The Sara Connor Chronicles years.
Please note there hasn't been any official announce yet and we're just making an educated guess at this stage. Feel free to share your thoughts on Summer's involvement with us in the comment section below or in the the dedicated forum thread.
Check back here for more info on this project as we learn them.
