Since James Cameron is busy filming the Avatar sequels, he will leave to "District 9"'s director Neill Blomkamp to direct the adaptation of the popular Battle Angel Alita franchise. Summer Glau, who has already played a cyborg in the short-lived Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, will play Alita, a cyborg "who has lost all memories and is found in a garbage heap by a cybernetics doctor who rebuilds and takes care of her."
UPDATE: This blog post was of course an April's fool joke.
Here's what James Cameron said about the project:
“It was a coin toss at that point, but I see the good the ‘Avatar’ franchise could do in terms of keeping a world audience cognizant of our relationship with nature, but in an entertainment context. So, ultimately, I feel there is more good to be done there than with ‘Battle Angel’, [which is] just a great, kickass story.”
James Cameron announced the addition of Neill Blomkamp and Summer Glau himself today via Twitter, with a photo attached:
There's not much we know at the moment but no doubt new informations will come up very soon.

That is fantastic news! So, another alumni of Terminator the Sarah Connor Chronicles goes to work for James Cameron the father of the Terminator story. I'm smiling!
I wish Summer the best. I hope this film based on Battle Angel Alita, will be the break out role Summer so desperately deserves. Her natural and superb acting skills are wasted on Arrow.
