Why Summer Glau will probably enter Oliver's love life and why Olicity and Lauriver shippers should not be afraid.
Sci-fi favorite Summer Glau taking on the role of DC Comics character Isabel Rochev in the second season of Arrow has created quite a buzz but there not much that we know about her character in The CW's hit series. In season one, Arrow has diverted from the comic that inspired it and it remain to be seen whether or not Summer Glau's Isabel Rochev will mirror the character from the comic.
We have already discussed the opportunity for Summer Glau to go blonde in a poll but there's many more questions about her character that need an answer. Hopefully the upcoming Arrow panel at 2013 San Diego Comic Con will give some answers.
Meanwhile, it's legitimate to wonder if summer Glau's Isabel will enter Oliver's life to complicate matters.
Warning, if you haven't watched the show yet, the following informations contains spoilers on Arrow season one and two.
In the DC comics, it is suggested that Isabel Rochev could have had an affair with Oliver's father (which would make Oliver and Isabel half siblings) but I don't think that Arrow's writers will go that route.
In season one, Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) has had an impressive number of love interests; there was of course, Sara Lance (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood) and her sister, Laurel (Katie Cassidy). But there was also Helena Bertinelli/The Huntress (Jessica De Gouw), detective McKenna Hall (Janina Gavankar), Yao Fei's daughter Shado (Celina Jade), and while there wasn't much "official" romantic interaction between them (much to the despair of the Olicity shippers), there's also fan favorite Felicity Smoak played by Emily Bett Rickards ('Olicity much?).
Sure, Isabel Rochev will be interested in taking over Queen Industries but firstly you don't hire an alluring actress without afterthoughs (and by that i mean romance) and secondly, the season finale has created a favourable ground for a new romance in Oliver's life.
"Laurel won't be with Oliver because she feels herself responsible for Tommy's death, and seeing that the last thing he said to her was "I love you", it will be hard for her to be with Oliver right away", said an executive producer in an interview.
Olicity shots like these are no doubt sprinkled generously
in many a fan-made blog dedicated to Oliver and Felicity.
This is where Isabel Rochev come into play; in mid-June, the producers of Arrow were casting for a new major recurring character/possible series regular for Season 2. Here name was Lisa and was described as a mysterious woman with a tragic past. She will "wreak havoc on Oliver's heart and is equal to Oliver in every way".
Now we know that this mysterious Lisa is none other than Summer's Isabel Rochev. To be honest, Oliver doesn't particularly NEED a new love interest and he's got already too much going on with the woman listed above. More, one could argue what "wreak havoc on Oliver's heart" means exactly but since we're on a channel with a penchant for soap-opera, it should be read as "potential love interest".
Olicity (Oliver+Felicity) or Lauriver (Oliver+Laurel) shippers should not be afraid of Isabel Rochev entering Oliver's love life; as in any good tv show, the superhero cannot be with the girl he loves because it would be too risky for her and he pushes her away to protect her (you'll notice I did say "her" and not Laurel or Felicity). Another rule is that the main characters cannot fully live their love or the show would be over (it's called the Moonlighting syndrome), think about Smallville or Castle, inwhich the main protagonists had to wait 4 or 5 seasons before admitting their love for each other.
Who cares who Oliver sleeps with (It's an image, we don't know if Isabel and Oliver will do it). As long as Oliver/Felicity/Laurel work together through the seasons, grow closer, bond, etc., it should be good for all shippers.
Isabel Rochev will most likely be gone at the end of the second season and no doubt Arrow's writers will benefit from her venue on the show to developp the relationship between Oliver and the regular female characters. Laurel has her own destiny to fulfill before becoming Black Canary and ultimately she and Oliver being a romantic couple; Felicity's destiny is more vague but given the popularity of the character, Olicity shippers shouldn't worry too much. However, Summer Glau's character should not be seen as an obstacle but as a facilitator in the big scheme of things.
So, it appears that Oliver's love life will be just as interesting in Season 2 as it was in the first season. Tune in for Arrow season two this fall and find out what type of character Summer Glau will end up playing.
We should get a whole lot of new spoiler this Saturday, July 20th during the Arrow panel at the 2013 San Diego Comic Con.
As a bonus, I could not resist showing you a great Olicity moment that occured in Arrow 1x21 “The Undertaking”, when Felicity admitted to feeling better having Oliver inside of her in reference to the earpiece she was wearing to allow him to communicate with her while she embarks on a solo undercover mission. Oliver's "What can I say..." reaction is priceless.

As you mentioned Summer's char will probably vanish in the end of the season, whether permanently or with an open door for a comeback....
While Felicity will most likely stay in there for far longer unless the executive producers make the wrong move n tragically execute her somehow. -_-
Otherwise I was hoping for F+O=HSTEL the whole time, in the finale I kinda saw Laurel(w/o Hardy xP, dunno y i make this association everytime I hear her name lol) in a different light up until that moment, but anyways I wouldn't deny the smoke that will rise if they decide to hook an Arrow and a PC. ;P
